Vintage Style Clothing, Costumes & Fashion History

So, vintage Balenciaga… where do you even start? Well, apparently, Vinted’s got your back. Like, seriously? Vinted? I thought that was just for selling your slightly-too-small Zara haul. But hey, maybe you can snag a hidden gem amongst the, uh, *less-than-gem-like* offerings. I’d still proceed with caution and a healthy dose of skepticism, tho.

Then you got places like 1stDibs, which, let’s be real, sounds fancy af. They’re all about that “elevate your daily look” vibe. Which, yeah, okay, a vintage Balenciaga anything *would* probably elevate your daily look. Unless you’re already rocking couture on the reg, in which case, um, hi, can we be friends?

The NOLD seems to be specializing more in dresses, specifically. So if you’re on the hunt for a killer Balenciaga frock from yesteryear, maybe give them a peek. I mean, who *doesn’t* want a “timeless classic” hanging in their closet? Even if it’s just hanging there because, let’s face it, actually wearing it involves a level of coordination and confidence I often lack.

And then there’s the whole “Vintage Style” thing. See, that’s where it gets kinda murky. Are we talking about actual vintage, as in, *made* back in the day? Or are we talking about stuff *inspired* by vintage Balenciaga? Big difference, people, *big* difference. One’s a rare find; the other’s a slightly-less-expensive imitation. Not that there’s anything wrong with inspiration, but, ya know, transparency is key.

Don’t forget those classic vintage shops, the ones claiming to have the best from the 80s and 90s. Sometimes you luck out and find a legit piece, other times it’s just really well-preserved (or not so well) polyester. It’s a gamble, a fashion treasure hunt, if you will.

And then there’s that bit about “古董衫” and the whole “古着风格.” Yeah, I had to Google Translate that. Apparently, it’s about a certain “vintage charm” and designers drawing inspiration from historical details. Which, duh. Balenciaga was always pushing boundaries, so even his older stuff feels, in a way, ahead of its time. Or at least, interestingly *of* its time.
