First off, the website is www.depop.com, just so we’re clear. And from what I’ve gathered, it’s basically a massive online thrift store, but, like, *curated*. You’ve got everyone from your average Joe (or Jane) cleaning out their closet to legit designers hawking their wares. It’s a real mishmash.
I saw something about Etsy buying them out a while back. Smart move, honestly. Etsy knows a good thing when they see it. Depop’s basically the cool, younger, slightly chaotic cousin to Etsy’s more… uh… “crafty” vibe. No offense to Etsy, either, but you know what I mean.
The cool thing is, you can find literally *anything* on there. Designer stuff, obvs. Preloved (which is just a fancy way of saying “used,” but sounds way better, right?). Vintage treasures that probably smell vaguely of mothballs, but are totally worth it. Streetwear that’ll make you look like you know what you’re doing (even if you don’t, like me). And sneakers, oh man, the sneaker game is strong on Depop.
I’m always scrolling for inspo, tbh. It’s kinda like Instagram, but with a “buy now” button attached to everything. Which can be dangerous for my bank account, lemme tell ya. You can follow your friends and favourite influencers – always a good way to find out what’s trending. And speaking of trends, Depop is *on it*. Like, if it’s cool, it’s on Depop. Probably. Maybe. Okay, sometimes you gotta sift through some… questionable… fashion choices, but hey, that’s part of the fun, right?
Oh, and if you’re thinking about selling stuff, Depop has a whole “Learn” section (I saw it mentioned in the stuff you gave me). It’s basically their support shop. I haven’t dug too deep, but apparently, they give you tips on how to make your shop look good and actually sell stuff. Which, you know, is kinda important.
I feel like the “Sign Up” blurb nails it: “Depop is where the world’s creatives come to buy, sell and discover the most inspiring and unique things.” It’s a bit hyperbolic, maybe, but it’s not *wrong*. It’s definitely more than just buying and selling clothes. It’s about finding your style, connecting with other people, and, you know, maybe scoring a killer vintage jacket for, like, ten bucks (or maybe ten *hundred* bucks, depending on your luck).
